Accessories - lead wool and patina oil
Lead wool for masonry construction
Lead wool is often used to secure Lead Sheet connections in masonry construction. Lead wool has the advantage, compared to mortar, of a certain flexibility, allowing it to fit in better with movement of material. It also has a virtually unlimited lifespan. Lead wool is pressed into position in layers all around, forming a homogeneous ring of lead that seals securely. The seal required depends on the working conditions in the area of application, and approx. 5.6 to 11.0 kg/dm³ is sufficient.
In radiation protection, lead wool is used to seal openings made in masonry for pipes or as radiation shielding for hard to reach areas.
Patina Oil to Prevent Streak Formation
English patina oil gives rolled lead a consistent appearance and protects against the build-up of carbonates. 1 Litre of patina oil, correctly applied, can cover up to 60 square metres of rolled lead.
Patina oil is a plant-based oil with several additives. It is applied evenly and sparingly to the clean, dry surface of the "Saturnblei" lead with a cotton cloth. It dries in about an hour, depending on the weather conditions.
The patina oil wears off within 6-12 months, depending on weather conditions. During this time, the surface of the "Saturnblei" lead has formed a protective layer, which is known as the patina. This sticks firmly in place, and is almost impossible to remove.
Patina oil should be used for laying new "Saturnblei" lead, which has not yet built up any patina. This prevents blue and white marks from appearing in streaks when it rains.
The manufacturer's instructions for use should be followed.
Patina oil is available in the following quantities:
Canisters of 0.5L / 1.0L / 2.0L
