Röhr + Stolberg

07.03.12 :: Röhr + Stolberg manufactures for Helmholtz Centre

Research for the future

For decades, Röhr + Stolberg has supplied industrial and research facilities with customised lead shielding solutions. In 2011, complex shielding was designed for the Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Energy Berlin. This was for an experimental setup in non-destructive materials testing. The Helmholtz Centre is part of a community of 18 research centres for science and technology as well as medicine and biology. Their objectives include securing a sustainable energy supply, pro-active transport planning, and developing medical therapies for illnesses that are currently incurable, thereby securing the livelihood of humanity. The Helmholtz Centre in Berlin specialises in research into materials, as well as working on new materials and complex material systems. For the Helmholtz project Ponto II, Röhr + Stolberg produced a complex measuring installation, with integrated pneumatics, and fitted it on location. The project was for polarised neutron tomography and is used for the macroscopic study of scientific and technological objects. Using this, potential internal fault locations or changes within objects can be represented. In addition, polarised neutron tomography offers the opportunity to represent and investigate magnetic fields and magnetic phenomena in bodies. Protection from radiation is ensured through integrated complex composites made of lead and boron carbide, produced by Röhr + Stolberg.

24.02.12 :: Looking back on: Roof + Timber International

Röhr + Stolberg at Roof + Timber 2012

Once again in 2012, Roof + Timber International was an important marketplace for Röhr + Stolberg GmbH in which to present its product range. From January 31 to February 3, 2012, Germany's largest manufacturer of rolled lead displayed its varied range of products for roofs and facades, along with its new Environmental Product Declaration. In Stuttgart, as the first and only manufacturer of rolled-lead products, Röhr + Stolberg presented its Environmental Product Declaration, produced by the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (Institute of Construction and Environment). In an age where sustainable construction planning is becoming an increasingly important topic, the Environmental Product Declaration provides information on the Life Cycle Assessment of construction products for building contractors, planners, and building owners. With the transparent disclosure of these and other relevant data, Röhr + Stolberg once more demonstrated at the Roof + Timber that building with rolled lead is both sustainable and viable for the future. Besides the EPD, Röhr + Stolberg also showed off in Stuttgart the variety of colors, surfaces, and possible applications for its roof and facade products. The varied finishing options for Venusblei, Saturnblei, bleiPLUS, and the bleiCOLOR product range were presented using specific examples of implementations, such as the St. Gotthard Hospice in Switzerland, a modern office building in Metzingen, and the old town hall in Mannheim. The workbench of application specialist Jürgen Seifert proved popular once again at the 2012 event. In live training demonstrations, he showed the various processing techniques for lead, giving visitors the opportunity to get their own hands on the mallet or welding unit.

Come down off the roof and make your way to Stuttgart!

Once again this year, Röhr + Stolberg will be exhibiting at Roof + Timber International in Stuttgart, where we will have some interesting innovations for you to admire. Our exhibition stand for 2012 picks up on the theme of our current advertising campaign "6 Mal gut Form" (6 times better shape) and showcases the entire range of roofing products on offer from Röhr + Stolberg. In a new, modern atmosphere, we will present our brand names bleiCOLOR, bleiCOLOR-SK, bleiPLUS, bleiCOLOR-First-Grat and VENUSBLEI, as well as the quality-protected Saturnblei. As the first and only manufacturer of sheet lead products to be given the environmental product declaration from the "Institut für Bauen und Umwelt e.V." (Institute for Construction and the Environment), we can also advise you in detail on the subject of sustainability. In addition, our application engineer Jürgen Seifert will be packing his workbench in preparation for Stuttgart and demonstrating how lead is processed in practice. You are cordially invited to get acquainted with our products, speak to us in person or follow any of our exciting presentations. So, come down off your roof and make your way to Stuttgart! We will be exhibiting from 31 January to 3 February 2012 at Messe Stuttgart's facilities: Hall 5, stand number 5,406.

23.08.11 :: Investment in a new mechanical machining method

Röhr + Stolberg stamping and punching machine

Röhr + Stolberg have added yet another method to their manufacturing processes. Thanks to the stamping and punching machine, even complex shapes can now be stamped, punched or embossed on site in Krefeld. The machine has a punching power of 30 tonnes and can machine blueprint cuts on lead sheets with a thickness of between 0.5 and 12 mm and weighing up to 250 kg. In particular, parts for radiation protection applications, for the medical and nuclear sectors for example, can be manufactured here in future. Managing Director Dr. Horst Koch had this to say: "With this investment, our mechanical machining expertise is taking an important step forward. We can now offer our customers a further mechanical machining method directly available from us."

11.05.11 :: Occupational Health and Safety Management System according to OHSAS 18001

Röhr + Stolberg Introduces Occupational Health and Safety Management System

Occupational health and safety has long been an important topic at Röhr + Stolberg. The recently introduced occupational health and safety management system based on the OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 highlights the company’s striving to continue to improve occupational safety. Quality and environmental management have been DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001 certified at Röhr + Stolberg for many years now. In this year’s inspection, TÜV Rheinland has now also officially certified the occupational health and safety management system at Röhr + Stolberg according to OHSAS 18001. The evaluation report finds that the system is suitable for sustainably ensuring the safety and health of employees and visitors. This means that working conditions can be continuously analyzed, potential risks identified promptly, and measures for improvement – if required – implemented quickly. Internationally, OHSAS 18001 is the best-known and most recognized occupational health and safety management system in over 80 countries in the world.

02.02.11 :: Membership in the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (Institute for Construction and Environment) e.V.

Röhr + Stolberg sets standards for sustainability and environmental safety for rolled lead

As an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified company, Röhr + Stolberg GmbH has long promoted the sustainable and environmentally friendly handling of lead. This is further proven and given a scientific basis with its membership in the independent Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) as a certified partner for building products. The official welcome for the new member Röhr + Stolberg was given at the BAU fair for the construction sector in Munich by the managing director of IBU, Dipl. Ing. Hans Peters, on 17 January 2011. At the same time, the recently issued Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for rolled lead was given to Röhr + Stolberg, represented by managing director Dr. Horst Koch, marketing manager Frank Köhler, and Darius Bartetzko ,sales manager for rolled lead products. Röhr + Stolberg is the first company to disclose the eco-balance for rolled lead over the entire life cycle of the material in its EPD and thus acknowledge its responsibility for future-oriented, sustainable building. The EPD, compiled in accordance with the international standard ISO 14025 (Type III of the Environmental Product Declaration), creates transparency and comparability for all technical and environmentally relevant characteristics of rolled lead, from mining the raw material to production to recyclability. Rolled lead from Röhr + Stolberg complies with these high standards of quality and safety. Among the enormous advantages of lead as a material are its long usable life and practically unlimited recyclability. Furthermore, Röhr + Stolberg uses only lead from the most modern mines with high safety standards that offer such recycled material. Valuable natural resources and the environment are thus protected. In a time in which sustainable building is becoming an ever more important issue, Röhr + Stolberg as IBU member and EPD holder thus presents important arguments for the use of rolled lead in construction.
